TERRE HAUTE – Warsaw’s top 25 finish at the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals not only yielded some great exposure against the best in the state, but afforded one young runner from Warsaw to put her name on the map.

Freshman Wini Barnett made quite the impression, placing 35th overall with a time of 19:13, landing her on the Honorable Mention All-State list from the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association. Her time at state was by far her top time of the postseason, after posting a 19:39 for second at the Culver Academy Regional and 19:38 for third at the Northern Lakes Conference Championships. Barnett was 23rd at the semi-state and fourth at the sectional, both of those times hovering around the 20-minute mark, to round out her tournament season.

Leading the way on the All-State list was champion Emma Wilson of Greencastle, who was a seven-second winner at 17:53 in the championship race at the LaVern Gibson course last weekend. Erin Strzelecki of Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger was runner-up at 18:00.

Other area runners to make the All-State list were Morgan Dyer of Elkhart Central, Kayla McCullough of East Noble and Honorable Mention went to Lauren Dibley of Elkhart Central.

Caston’s Mitchell Rans was among the All-State selections for the boys.
