WARSAW — A Warsaw man is facing felony charges after police say he refused to let a victim leave a residence, strangled her and slapped her.

Ivan Tepo

Ivan Tepo, 20, 1692 E. CR 200N, No. 80, Warsaw, is being charged with domestic battery with moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony; strangulation, a level 6 felony; and criminal confinement, a level 5 felony.

On Oct. 18, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to a batter complaint. A witness at the scene informed the officer that Tepo had a female inside the residence and would not let her leave.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the officer knocked on the door and after a period of time Tepo answered. The officer spoke with the female victim who advised her mother told her she needed to leave the residence and Tepo forced her into a bedroom, locked the door and held her to prevent her from leaving.

The female further advised that she attempted to escape through a back door and Tepo again prevented her from leaving. According to the female, she told Tepo she wanted to end their relationship, at which point he slapped her on the face, grabbed her by the neck and choked her to the point of losing consciousness.

The officer spoke with Tepo, who admitted to holding the female against her will, slapping her and putting his hands on her throat.

Tepo was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Oct. 18, with a $2,250 surety and cash bond. He is scheduled to appear for his initial hearing on Nov. 8.
