LEESBURG — During the month of October, Leesburg Elementary School kindergarten and first graders were invited to the Plain Township Fire Station. The volunteer fire fighters volunteered to teach Leesburg students about fire safety.
During the presentation, students learned about smoke detectors, the importance of a safe meeting place and what to do in the event of a fire. A fireman dressed in full uniform and air tank showed the students how a fireman looks and sounds so they would not be afraid. Students had the opportunity to try on two smaller fireman uniforms as well.
Students enjoyed exploring the different fire trucks at the station and discovering how each truck has a different purpose. A favorite moment for students during the trip to the fire station was being able to ride back to school in a fire truck. Teachers and students appreciate the volunteers giving of their time and thank them for the valuable lessons learned.
