Tyler has been battling osteosarcoma for four years, inspiring others with his faith, courage and attitude during his journey. A sophomore at Purdue, he was awarded his degree from the university after announcing he could not return to the school due to his health. Doctors have said the cancer is no longer treatable.
Members of his Carmel community and his fellow Boilermakers have reached out and supported Tyler. The Purdue football team made him an honorary captain for their game against Northwestern and the school honored him with the inaugural Purdue Alumni Impact Award.
“Just the outpouring of support from everyone, just to see the fact that several hundred people would show up to sing and pray over my family means a lot for sure,” Tyler told Eyewitness News earlier this month as members of Savior’s Serenade sang and prayed in front of his home.
Tyler requests donations be sent to his Riley Dance Marathon account to fund pediatric cancer research.
