WARSAW — The Kosciusko Solid Waste Management District discussed the future use of funds during its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Currently, the district has approximately $270,000 in its checking account. The district spent the majority of the meeting discussing how to use more of the funds to better recycling efforts in the community.

“We should consider the potential of other services so that we can use these funds properly,” said district member Cary Groninger. “We need to practice proactivity.”

During the fund’s discussion, district member Rick Swaim discussed plastics recycling and the need to attack contamination. KC Recycling Depot Director Tom Ganser also mentioned the need to become more robust in recycling education.

The district also approved a resolution regarding unpaid leave for new hires. In their first year of employment, new hires will have 10 days of unpaid leave.

Ganser discussed the work education and outreach coordinator Suzanne Stokes is completing in local schools.

“She takes the time to make a creative, unique approach for educational material and is very conscious of her approach,” said Ganser.
