CLAYPOOL — The discussion on unpaid ordinance fines was continued during the Claypool Town Council meeting Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Town Attorney John Barrett told the council that letters were sent to citizens with ordinance fines. There are eight citizens in the town with unpaid violations.

“Depending on how the council wishes to handle these issues, these fines could be taken to small claims court,” said Barrett.

The council voted to table the discussion and figure out who has already paid the fines after receiving a letter from Barrett. The council also decided to wait on small claims court action until it knows the official amount owed per case to see if it’s financially worth taking said cases to court.

Town Marshal Ben Sanders informed the council that new WatchGuard in-car and body cameras for the Claypool Police Department have been installed and are fully functional.

During the meeting, Sanders swore in Eric Lindsey as a Claypool reserve officer. Current reserves put in a total of 134 hours during the month of September.

Sanders also reminded the public that from Nov. 1 through the end of April, vehicles cannot be parked on Main Street between 3 and 5 a.m. due to snow plowing.

The council also reminded the town that there is no leaf burning in city limits. Bag any leaves and place them on the curb for pick-up. Citizens can obtain a burn ordinance from any police officer. With the first burn violation, citizens are given a verbal warning. After that, citizens are subject to fines for violating the burn ordinance.
