Janet E. Shoemaker, 79, South Whitley, passed away in her residence at 8:30 p.m., Oct. 15, 2018.

On Dec. 19, 1938, she was born in Whitley County to Lyman and Mildred (Tschauntz) Slater. On Oct. 15, 1960, she was united in marriage to Joe E. Shoemaker who preceded her in death.

A graduate of Sidney High School she was self-employed with Circle “S” Arabians and “A World of Horses” for 30 years. She loved raising horses, painting, knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by her son: Howard (Kelly) Shoemaker, South Whitley; and a daughter, Bambi Bennett, Louisville, Ky. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Nikole Callihan, Jessica Bertram, Jack Shoemaker, Claire Shoemaker and Grace Shoemaker; great grandchildren: Nora Callihan and Keirsey Bertram. She is further survived by her sister: Sherry Boggs of Columbia City.

She was preceded by her husband Joe, sons; Leslie and Jason along with her parents and siblings; Cozetta Slater and Larry Allen.

A visitation will be held in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Pierceton from 10 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Oct. 18. A memorial service will follow at noon, Oct. 18, also in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel. Burial will be private at a later date.
