PORTAGE — Warsaw senior duo Spencer Britton and Nolan Knight earned a pair of wins at the Portage Doubles Regional Saturday, winning the title and advancing to the state doubles final in Indianapolis next weekend.

Britton and Knight battled back from a first-set loss to Angola’s Luke Hottell and Nick Boyd and winning an eventual third-set tiebreaker, 7-5, for a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(5) win in Saturday’s semifinals. They beat Kankakee Valley’s Garrett Brewster and Nolan McKim in an extended second set in the final to win in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, and claim the Portage doubles championship.

Britton and Knight moved into the state doubles tournament after advancing through two rounds of the Warsaw Sectional, then winning one of two match points for the Tigers in the team’s season-ending, 3-2 loss to Peru in the semifinals of the Culver Academies Regional last Tuesday. They collected the Culver Academies Doubles Sectional title with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Triton’s Chase Butler and Carter Kuntz last Saturday.

Knight and Britton advance to the IHSAA Doubles State Final at Park Tudor High School next weekend. The quarterfinals are slated for Friday at 2 p.m., and the semifinals will convene Saturday at 10 a.m. The championship is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.
