Whitko’s Sprunger Resigns, Effective Immediately

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko High School Head Football Coach Jeff Sprunger has resigned, effective immediately, and former head coach Josh Mohr is taking the reigns of the football team, the school announced Wednesday.
Personal and health-related issues were cited for Sprunger’s resignation, and the Whitko Community School Corporation is asking that the privacy of Sprunger and his family be respected at this time. The corporation also expressed thanks to Sprunger for his years of service and stated that he will remain a part of Whitko Junior/ Senior High School in a teaching capacity in a press release signed by superintendent Brandon Penrod.
Mohr has been appointed to lead the football team on an interim basis for the remainder of the 2018 season. At the conclusion of the season, Whitko will search for a permanent replacement. Wednesday’s release stated that “(W)e are looking forward to this new direction of Whitko Junior Senior High School football.”
Sprunger recorded a head coaching mark of 8-20 over three years at the helm of the program, including the Wildcats’ current 1-6 record, their only win coming last Friday at Three Rivers Conference foe Manchester via a 46-28 final.
Mohr headed the Wildcats from 2013 to 2015, amassing a record of 19-14 over his three seasons.
