WARSAW — A homeless Warsaw man is facing a felony charge and two misdemeanors after officers attempted to arrest him for drunkenness and he became belligerent and threatening, police say.

Randy Walgamuth

Randy Walgamth, 58, Warsaw, is charged with intimidation of a law enforcement officer, a level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor; and public intoxication, a class B misdemeanor. He was booked Sept. 11 and later released on $5,250 surety and cash bond.

Police reported that on Sept. 11, a call came in reporting a drunken man falling against a vehicle at a Dollar General store in Warsaw. An officer reported approaching Walgamuth, who was holding himself up by a post under the store’s awning. The officer said Walgamuth’s eyes were bloodshot and watery. Walgamuth reportedly said, “this is f****** b*** s***.”

Police say Walgamuth first consented to a breath test, which resulted in a blood alcohol count of .240, then clenched both fists and took a swing at one of the officers. The punch missed the officer and Walgamuth spun around. The officer on the scene was forced to take Walgamuth to the ground and eventually put the man in handcuffs.

Walgamuth refused to be placed in the police car, but eventually was put in the car and transported to the jail. During transit, Walgamuth told the arresting officer, “I’m going to slit your throat and kill you.”

At the jail, Walgamuth was tested again and registered a blood alcohol count of .275, causing jail officials to decide to send the man to Kosciusko Community Hospital for medical clearance. While at the hospital, Walgamuth threatened another Warsaw police officer, making a slitting motion to his throat and stating “I will see you in 48 hours and kill you.” Police reported that Walgamuth made the slitting motion several times. Police also reported finding a black and silver box cutter in one of Walgamuth’s pockets.

Walgamuth has an initial hearing in Kosciusko County Superior Court II at 1 p.m. on Oct. 1.
