UPDATE — Warsaw Woman Dies In Sevastopol Crash

Emergency personnel tend to the female victim of a two-vehicle crash Saturday night, Sept. 22.

BEAVER DAM — A Warsaw woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle collision north of Sevastopol Saturday evening, Sept. 22.

Hope Steyn, 21, of Warsaw, died at the scene. Her side of the vehicle received the majority of the impact from the side-impact collision. She was pronounced dead by an official with the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.

According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, deputies and emergency personnel responded at 7:34 p.m. to the crash at the intersection of CR 1000W and CR 900S in southwestern Kosciusko County.

The crash involved a westbound 2006 Ford Fusion, which entered the path of a southbound 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. Evidence at the scene indicated that the driver of the Ford, Tertius Steyn, 22, of Warsaw failed to yield the right of way to the southbound SUV.

Tertius Steyn sustained facial injuries in the crash and was transported by helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. The SUV sustained extensive front end damage from the collision. The driver of the Chevy Tahoe was identified as Kalista Dobbins, 19, of Akron. She sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment. A male passenger was not injured in the crash and an infant was medically cleared at Kosciusko Community Hospital as a result of the crash.

Officers stated that the crash is still currently under investigation. The Kosciusko County Fatal Team was assisted at the scene by members of the Burket Fire Department, Mentone Fire Department, Parkview EMS, Mentone EMS, Samaritan Air Ambulance, Claypool Police Department, Indiana State Police, the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
