SYRACUSE — Wade Tharp, archaeologist with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, will be giving the presentation, “Archaeology in Your Community.” The event is free and open to the public.
It will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in the Syracuse Community Center Kiwanis Room, 1013 N. Long Drive, and is sponsored by the Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum.
The presentation will discuss what archaeology is and what it is not, explore prehistoric and historic archaeology in Indiana and in Kosciusko County, provide an overview of the laws that protect and preserve Hoosier archaeological resources, and reveal how everyone can get involved in archaeology.
In addition, Dana Northam will be on hand to discuss the museum’s Dolan collection and some of the interesting discoveries learned while studying and cataloguing the collection. She is a student at Ball State under the supervision of archaeologists and professors in the Ball State University’s Applied Anthropology Laboratories.
