
WARSAW — A Nappanee man sustained a broken arm after a three-vehicle accident on North SR 15, near West CR 600N, Warsaw.
At approximately 2:43 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a vehicle accident involving a semi.
The crash involved a 2009 gray Toyota Camry, operated by Trevor L. Lutes, 20, Nappanee; a 2019 silver Volvo semi, operated by Ronald J. Heinbeck, 68, Comstock Park, Mich.; and a red 2012 BMW, operated by Gilberto L. Garcia, Goshen.
Lutes was traveling south on SR 15 from Goshen when he began to fall asleep. His vehicle made impact with Heinbeck’s semi after crossing the center line of the roadway. Lutes’ vehicle struck the rear tires of Heinbeck’s vehicle. Lutes had to be extricated from his vehicle, and was flown by Lutheran Air Ambulance to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He suffered a broken arm from the accident and was released from the hospital a few hours after the accident occurred.
Garcia was traveling north on SR 15, following Heinbeck’s vehicle. After Lutes’ vehicle struck Heinbeck’s, Lutes’ vehicle struck Garcia’s. Garcia complained of pain in his left shoulder and lip, sustaining minor abrasions on his lower arms and hands.
Damages are estimated at up to $50,000.
