Special Weather Statement
KOSCIUSKO — The National Weather Service of Northern Indiana issued a special weather statement at 10:17 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29.
A cold front with gusty winds will affect Elkhart, Northwestern Noble, Kosciusko, Northwestern Cass, Lagrange, Northwester Steuben, Northeastern White, Southeastern St. Joseph, Pulaski, Fulton, Southeastern Starke, Marshall, Southeastern Cass, St. Joseph, Branch and Northwestern Hillsdale counties.
At 10:14 a.m. surface observations and spotter reports indicate a brief period of gusty winds following a cold frontal passage. This front will continue across Southeast Central Lower Michigan and Northern Indiana through late this morning. Winds will shift to the northwest behind the front, with a brief period of wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph possible immediately behind the front.
Locations impacted include South Bend, Elkhart, Mishawaka, Goshen, Warsaw, Sturgis, Coldwater, Plymouth, Three Rivers, Nappanee, Rochester, Winona Lake, Bremen, Ligonier, Knox, Syracuse, Lagrange, Winamac, Dunlap and Simonton Lake. This includes the following highways: Interstate 69 in Michigan between mile markers 2 and 21 and Interstate 80 in Indiana between mile markers 87 and 141.
Be alert for brief higher wind gusts up to 40 mph through noon as the cold front progresses southeast.
