KOSCIUSKO — A Syracuse woman was arrested after leaving the scene of a vehicle accident and possessing a syringe.

Nicole Coburn, 36, 13551 Hillside Drive, Syracuse, is being charged with possession of a syringe, a level 6 felony; driving while suspended, a class A misdemeanor; and failure to stop after damage to property other than a vehicle, a class B misdemeanor.

On Aug. 8, an officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident with a vehicle striking a utility pole at Backwater Road and SR 13.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, when the officer arrived, the driver had fled from the scene. On the vehicle’s seat, the officer found a purse that contained Coburn’s identification, a syringe and a plastic bag used for illegal drugs.

The officer received information that Coburn was at a residence just north of the accident. The officer went to the residence and spoke with Coburn, who said she may have fallen asleep before the accident. She also said the rear brakes on the vehicle didn’t work. The officer found that Coburn’s driver’s license was suspended prior.

Coburn was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Aug. 8, with a $5,250 surety and cash bond.
