Miriam Jane Kaufman, 70, Bremen, died at 2:40 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, at Elkhart General Hospital, where she had been a patient since Friday.

She was born Aug. 17, 1948, in Canton, Ohio to John  W. and Ada M. (Miller) Bontrager. On Oct. 21, 1971, she married Samuel M. Kaufman in Middlebury.

Mrs. Kaufman lived most of her life in this area.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish  Church.

She is survived by her husband, Samuel M. Kaufman; children, Sharon Ann Kaufman at home, Marilyn Fern (Alvin Kuhns, Pauline Sue (David H.) Mast, Wayne S. (Edna Sue) Kaufman, all of Bremen; Allen S. (Lisa Ann) Kaufman, Nappanee, Leanna Lou Kaufman, Goshen; 20 grandchildren; a great granddaughter, her stepmother, Mary Bontrager, Middlebury; brothers, David Lee Bontrager, Paul (Sue) Bontrager, both of Middlebury, Joe (Fannie Mae) Bontrager, Shipshewana, Samuel (Elsie) Bontrager, Hillsboro, WI; sister, Ruth A. (Issac) Miller, Rosebush, MI, and stepbrother,  Earl (Karen) Mast, Etna Green.  Preceding in death were her parents; grandson, Brandon Kaufman; and sister-in-law, Laura Bontrager.

Family and friends may call after 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 27, and all day, Tuesday, August 28th at the family residence. Funeral Services will also be at the family residence, at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29. Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate and burial will be in Borkholder Cemetery.
