
NORTHWOOD 4-0 AT PRAIRIE HEIGHTS INVITE
NorthWood had a spectacular day at the Prairie Heights tournament, running through pool play with 2-0 wins before sweeping the hosts in the championship match.
NorthWood defeated Fort Wayne Northside, Lakeland and East Noble by 2-0 counts in pool play to advance to the final. Against Prairie Heights in the championship, NorthWood claimed game one 25-22 before rolling in the decisive set 25-8.
In the championship, Maddy Payne had eight kills and three blocks while Caroline Mullet sent up 21 assists. For the day, Payne had 30 kills and Mullet assisted on 92 points. In the final, Whitney Gessinger added 10 digs, Kendal Miller had six digs and Ali Knepp had five kills.
NorthWood (10-3) will host LaVille Tuesday night.
WARSAW 3-1 AT MISHAWAKA INVITE
Warsaw held its own at the ultra-competitive Mishawaka Invite.
The Tigers were 2-1 in pool play, beating St. Joe and Northwestern in 2-0 scores while losing to a very tough Carmel squad in two. In the consolation final, Warsaw held off a perennial state contender in Mishawaka Marian 25-22, 27-25.
For the day, Kacy Bragg had 57 assists and 20 digs while Kylie Smith chipped in 26 digs. Rachel Yeager and Kennedy Lauck combined for 14 blocks in the Marian victory.
Warsaw (9-2) will visit Elkhart Memorial Wednesday night in Northern Lakes Conference action.
WAWASEE 2-2 AT WESTVIEW INVITE
Wawasee split its day’s work at the Westview Invite.
The Warriors opened the day with a 2-0 win over Whitko, but lost to South Bend Adams in three and also to Central Noble in three. In its consolation round matchup, Wawasee beat Eastside 25-22, 23-25, 15-6.
Tournament leaders for Wawasee included Madison Simmons with 18 kills, 17 digs and five aces, Elizabeth Kleopfer with 43 assists and 16 kills, Hannah Gaerte with 14 kills and Brooke Heche with 38 digs and four aces.
Wawasee’s freshman team won a pair of games at the NorthWood Invite to move to 4-0 on the season. Against Concord in round one, Wawasee won 25-21, 24-25, 15-12 and were trailing 11-4 in the third game. Laney Gross had eight assists, six kills, three digs and two aces in the first game. Against NorthWood in game two, Talia Kuhl had five aces and three digs and Gross added seven assists in a 21-25, 25-14, 15-12 title. Wawasee is 4-0 on the freshman season.
Wawasee (5-4) will visit Manchester Tuesday.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY 1-2 AT MANCHESTER INVITE
A loss in its first two games set Valley back at the Manchester Invite.
Culver Academy beat Valley in two games and Manchester dumped its Three Rivers Conference neighbors in three to open the day. Valley would rally to beat Tri-Central 25-15, 25-17 to close its day.
Stats were not immediately available for Valley’s games.
The Valley C team won the Triton JV title Saturday afternoon. Valley beat Culver and Triton in two games before knocking off Bremen 22-25, 25-18, 15-4 to claim ownership of the trophy. Triton was 2-1 on the day, beating Culver in two and Bremen in two.
Valley (3-5) will host Peru Tuesday in TRC action.
