WARSAW — The Kosciusko Solid Waste Management District meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 21, focused on the results of the free three-month television amnesty program.
In July, the last month of the amnesty period, the Kosciusko County Recycling Depot received 950 televisions. On average, that’s approximately 43 televisions a day. In May, 378 televisions were collected and 571 were collected in June.
KC Recycling Depot Director Tom Ganser said that during last year’s amnesty, the depot received about 350 televisions per month. He mentioned the importance of advertising about the amnesty through radio stations.
Ganser suggested the idea of having more television amnesty programs throughout the year in order to help lessen the labor required during the summer.
“I think we should consider having an amnesty day or week to continue this success,” said Ganser. “This really does help bring awareness to recycling.”
The board spent the majority of the meeting discussing the implementation of new ideas for the television amnesty program.
Board Member Rick Swaim suggested having an amnesty program close to Super Bowl weekend. Treasurer Michelle Puckett suggested holding a program around the time of Black Friday.
