Walkerton Woman Tells Police She Provided Burglar’s Transportation

KOSCIUSKO — A Walkerton woman faces several charges after police say she drove the getaway car for a man who burglarized a Kosciusko County home.

Madison Marie Stafford, 21, 880 Walkerton Trail, Walkerton, is charged with burglary, a level 4 felony and theft, a level 6 felony. She was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail Aug. 20, on $15,250 surety and cash bond.

Police say that on March 27, officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department were called to a county residence and learned that a basement window had been forced open. The police report stated that unknown subjects stole a safe containing jewelry and $8,000 in cash as well as a laptop computer. Police reported receiving information that Michael Miller was involved in the heist.

Miller told police that Stafford drove him to the residence and drove the car she was driving into the garage of the residence in order to load the stolen items into the car. Stafford corroborated the story when police talked to her. Stafford also drove Miller to another man’s residence where the safe was opened and the contents distributed. Police said Stafford, Miller and the second man drove to a bridge where the safe was dumped into the water.

No hearing date has been set for Stafford.
