HUNTINGTON COUNTY — A former Fort Wayne pain doctor was killed early Wednesday in a farming accident at a Huntington County property.

Police and medics were called around 7:15 a.m. to a property at 11678 C.R. North 500 East, north of Roanoke, on a report of a farming accident.

Huntington County Coroner Phil Zahm told NewsChannel 15 that a man was operating a skid loader to feed animals on the property and was attempting to lift the bucket of the machine over a fence to pour feed when the skid loader tipped over.

The man was crushed against a fence post and was killed, Zahm said.

Around noon Wednesday, the coroner identified that man as 55-year-old Dr. Michael Cozzi.

Two years ago, federal agents raided Cozzi’s homes and properties. At the time, he was arrested on narcotics charges and had his medical license pulled after officials said he prescribed some 2 million doses of Oxycodone over a 2-year period.

No charges were filed in the case. State records appeared to show Cozzi was applying to have his medical license reinstated.

An autopsy was scheduled for later Wednesday.
