
Gary W. Berlin, 69, Fort Wayne, passed away at 8:07 a.m., Aug. 11, 2018, in the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. He was born March 16, 1949, in Kosciusko County to John Martin and Doris Lucille (Linn) Berlin.
He faithfully served his Country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971 as Specialist 5 during the Vietnam Conflict. He has lived in Fort Wayne since 1977 and was formerly of Pierceton. He was employed by Indiana State Department of Corrections from 1977 to 2009 holding several positions and was ultimately the Program One Director for the North East Juvenile Facility, Fort Wayne. He attended various churches in Fort Wayne and was a former member of First Baptist Church, Pierceton. In addition, he was a member and Past Commander of the Jim Eby Post #857 of Fort Wayne where he served on the Honor Guard and coordinated the Community Service Reports.
He is survived by his sister: Kristy Mayer of Warsaw; brother: Brett Berlin of Pierceton; nephew: Daniel Mayer of Milford. He was preceded in death by his parents; John (in 1976) and Doris (in 2017) as well as a nephew: David Mayer (in 2001) and a brother-in-law, Doug Mayer (in 2013).
Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m.,Tuesday, Aug. 14, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton. A funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton. Pastor Jack Worth will officiate the Funeral Service. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton with Military Honors rendered by the VFW Post #857, American Legion Post #258 and the United States Army Military Honors Detail.
