
BREMEN – The 2018 volleyball season couldn’t have started any better for the Wawasee program. The Lady Warriors swept all three levels of its season intros Saturday at Bremen, winning the freshman, JV and varsity contests.
Starting with the varsity, Madison Simmons made a huge impact for the Warriors with 14 kills and three aces in the 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-15 win. Peyton Rookstool, Elizabeth Kleopfer and Molly Jones all registered six kills while Kleopfer tallied 21 assists and 16 digs. Brooke Heche added 19 digs and four aces, Ashley Vazquez hung 12 assists and Madison Mottern had a pair of blocks in the win.
The JV won in straights at 25-21, 25-11. Delaney Hare and Morgan Heche combined for 11 assists while Grace Campbell and Leslie Vazquez each had three kills in victory. Corin Nyce led the Wawasee team with four assists.
In the freshman contest, Wawasee took it to Bremen in a 25-16, 25-12 result. Dylan Konieczny, Megan Mottern and Gloria Slabaugh combined for 11 kills while Brittany Price and Lauren Miller teamed for seven aces. Laney Gross had two kills and two aces.
“We saw great things both on offense and defense right out of the gate, which makes us excited for what we’ll accomplish this season,” said Wawasee freshman coach Paige Whitford.
Wawasee’s varsity and JV will play again Tuesday at home against Tippecanoe Valley while the freshman team will host Central Noble on Aug. 21.
