WARSAW – The change of the calendar from July to August signifies so much to so many in anticipation of school beginning. For Grace College and its campus, the annual Grace Lancer Classic golf outing is the unofficial kick-off for its academic year.

Among the whispering high heather and lush, manicured fairways of Stonehenge Golf Club, nearly 125 golfers took part in the event that has become a trademark of the Grace athletic department. Athletic Director Chad Briscoe, his staff and several of the athletic and academic dignitaries were on hand for the morning and afternoon shotguns.

The winning team for the 21st running of the Classic carded a ridiculous 18-under 53 in the scramble. Kudos for Arik Lee, Luke Smith, Cam Screeton and Tanner Lee for managing the course as champions.

The fundraiser contributes back into the Grace College athletic fund. Also among the regalia was a silent auction featuring local celebrity memorabilia, a full-size University of Florida football helmet signed by Tim Tebow, a Jon Lester autograph and several Indiana-based items.

“This is obviously a great showing not only for our athletic department, but for Grace as a whole,” Briscoe said. “We are blessed to be able to put on such a great event and showcase our student athletes and Grace College. We’re excited for the start of the school year and promoting Grace College and the people that make this a great place to be.”
