
Barbara Sue North, 69, North Manchester, passed away at 6:48 p.m. on July 16, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born on May 7, 1949 in Prestonsburg, Ky. to Rebel and Julie (Reffitt) Hackworth.
After graduating from Prestonsburg High School, Prestonsburg, Ky., she moved to Indiana and shortly after she married James L. North on Dec. 13, 1969. She was employed at Singer Control in North Manchester from 1967-1974 and also worked at H&R Block in North Manchester as a tax preparer. She will long be remembered as a cashier for the Hardware Store in North Manchester for 30 years. She was very engaging and joyful as she served the public through her employment. She enjoyed baking and shopping and laughing while spending time with her grandchildren.
Barbara North is survived by her husband James North, North Manchester; one daughter, Jayme R. (Richard) Smith, North Manchester; one brother, Roy (Pat) Hackworth, Prestonsburg, Ky.; three sisters, Betty Hackworth, Prestonsburg, Ky.; Wanna (Kennith) Stephens, Lexington, Ky.; and Linda Frasure, Martin, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
Family and friends may call from 2-7 p.m., Monday, July 23, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 St. Rd. 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. A celebration of Barbara Sue North’s life will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, July 23, at McKee Mortuary. Rev. Nick Poe will officiate.
