Community Support Brings Increase In Auction Totals

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — “Overall we had a great sale because of the tremendous and generous support from the community,” stated Kelly Heckaman, Purdue Extension Kosciusko County, about the Kosciusko County 4-H Livestock Auction Friday, July 13. “All market prices were down for all livestock, but we still had an increase over last year’s sale.”

Heckaman released the official totals from this year’s sale of 495 lots. This year’s auction brought in $418,686.47 plus an additional $6,702.60 from the buyers support group for a grand total of $425,389.07, up $7,401.66 from 2017. The number of lots auctioned was also up 17 from 2017.

The auction of 2014 remains the record year in sales and lots sold. The auction that year brought in $437,674.79 and the number of lots was 558.

A breakdown by division and number of entries in each division, along with the sale total are as follows:

Beef, 25 entries, $84,816.65

Dairy, 47 entries, $39,185

Dairy Calf Feeder Steer, 41 entries, $44,225

Dairy Steer, 10 entries, $20,055.95

Goats, 61 entries, $29,957

Poultry, 150 entries, $51,496

Rabbit, 27 entries, $11,000

Sheep, 28 entries, $31,931.50

Swine, 104 entries, $107,356.32.

The queen kiss brought in $3,115.65 and the king kiss brought in $2,250.
