NORTH WEBSTER — Animal handler Mark Kohlhorst brings the animal world up close and personal when he presents his Mark’s Ark Live Animal Show at North Webster Community Public Library on Wednesday, July 18, with two performances at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

While children of all ages are welcome at either show, the morning show is geared toward preschool to first grade, while the afternoon show will appeal to older children. It’s always a popular event as the kids get to meet, touch and learn about all kinds of animals.

Earlier in the week, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16, Anna Gibson will be at the library singing and playing the keyboard during Musical Experience Time. Held every Monday and Thursday through July, Musical Experience Time provides an opportunity for kids to encounter various types of musical instruments, sounds and music styles.

The week wraps up in the Youth Department with Friday Family Food and Fun on July 20, with a choice of three time sessions at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. Children will have fun making musical instruments and crafts and snacking on edible drumsticks. In the Adult Services Department, Writer’s Corner meets 10 a.m. on Monday, July 16. Monday’s assignment is to write a composition about some type of disability and bring it to share with the group.

Summer Book Club meets later that day at 5:30 p.m. to discuss “The Glass Castle: A Memoir” by Jeanette Walls. August’s selection, “The Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr, will also be available to pick up. It’s a novel about a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths collide in occupied France as they both struggle to survive the devastations of World War II. Pick up a copy and join the discussion the third Monday in August.
