James Gilbert, 12, enjoys a cool down at the Winona Lake Splash Pad Saturday, June 30 while participants and spectators prepared to brave the heat for the Winona Lake Parade.

WINONA LAKE — While the mercury is a degree or two cooler than yesterday, June 30, temperatures around Kosciusko County are still high enough for residents to be in danger of heat-related issues.

Temperatures were still in the upper 80s and low 90s mid-way through the afternoon. The forecast calls for the possibility of some cooling showers later in the day, Sunday, July 1.

For residents around the Warsaw area, Fellowship Missions, 1520 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, will be open as a cooling center through Sunday, July 1, for anyone who needs a break from the heat.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and if they venture outside, take plenty of breaks from the heat. Area lakes are getting plenty of use and some, like Winona Lake, have splash pads with plenty of cool water.
