MILFORD — Was it a combination of the setting sun in the west and branches of a tree obscuring a stop sign that caused an accident this evening?

Milford Firefighters use the JAWS of Life to extricate the driver of a Ford Focus.

Police are gathering information on a two-vehicle crash at Old SR 15 and CR 900N, south of Milford. The accident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. today, June 27. Three people were believed to be transported to an area hospital.

The accident occurred between a GMC Sierra pick up truck and a Ford Focus. The driver of the truck, unfamiliar with the area, was not injured and was heard telling officials the branches of a tree hid the stop sign.

The driver and two passengers in the Ford were treated by paramedics at the scene. Milford Fire Department used the JAWS of Life on the driver’s side door to extricate the driver.

After the collision the truck traveled eastbound hitting a Norfolk Southern Control, activating the crossing gates. Norfolk Southern officials are at the scene to assess the damage and repair the crossing lights.

The accident is being investigated by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department. Milford Fire Department and Lutheran EMS responded to the scene.
