NORTH WEBSTER — Kids are invited to rock out at North Webster Community Public Library at the Summer Reader Dance Party 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20. It will be a high energy time of dancing to children’s dance videos and music. Parents are encouraged join in, too, and get some exercise while the kids work off energy.

Children will have the opportunity to explore violin music during musical experience time at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 18, when Joyce Dubach plays the violin in the youth department. At the same time Thursday, June 21, Alice Charlton demonstrates the dulcimer, a stringed folk instrument. Musical experience times, held every Monday and Thursday, provide children the opportunity to explore a variety of musical instruments in an informal setting.

Friday family food and fun day focuses on musical crafts, activities and snacks on June 22. A choice of three sessions is available at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. Advance registration is required to attend, so sign the kids up at the Youth Services Desk or call (574) 834-7122 ext. 202.

There is no deadline for signing up for the youth Summer Reading Program. Kids can register any time until July 28. However, the sooner they sign up and start reading, the more opportunity they have to earn prizes.

In the adult services department, writer’s corner meets 10 a.m. June 18. This month the group was issued a challenge to write a composition using words with no more than three syllables. They will be sharing what they have written at Monday’s meeting. If you’re up to the challenge, write something and bring it to share.

Later that day at 5:30 p.m., summer book club meets to discuss Yellow Crocus by Laila Ibrahim. Next month’s selection The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeanette Walls will also be available. It’s the true story of the author’s unconventional and poverty-stricken upbringing and her deeply dysfunctional family. Pick up a copy at the library and join the discussion at the July 16 meeting.

Planning a family vacation? Audio books make good traveling companions, keeping the family entertained during long hours in the car. The library has added many new titles to its large collection of audio books. Check some out and take them along on your next trip.

The library will close early at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, for the Mermaid Festival Cutie Parade.
