Evelyn Cauffman Miller — UPDATED

Mrs. Evelyn Cauffman Miller, 97, Rochester, passed away at 7:15 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2018, at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester where she had resided the last several years.

On March 16, 1921, Evelyn Fingerle was born in Rossville. She was the first born and a treasured daughter of Henry S. and Ethel Patrick Fingerle. Growing up she shared her childhood with two sisters: Dort and Ida, and three brothers: Ray, Jesse, Elbert. She was a caregiver for her mother and her siblings.

Evelyn and Robert Cauffman were married on June 13, 1939. They were married nearly 29 years, when he sadly passed away on May 21, 1968. On Feb. 26, 1971, Evelyn and Doc H. Miller were united in marriage. He sadly passed away on Aug. 26, 1983.

A devoted member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Evelyn Cauffman Miller was a vibrant member of the United Methodist Women’s group. She was active with the ladies auxiliaries of the Moose, Elks and Eagles. She loyally served the ladies of Fulton County at Blumenthal’s. She was store manager and sales rep for almost three decades, keeping women on the cutting edge of fashion.

In her earlier years, to relax, she  enjoyed great times with Doc, fishing for blue gills or crappie or taking a boat ride over the sparkling waters of Lake Manitou. They also loved to snowmobile. An accomplished euchre player, she played many spirited games with friends and family. Her most memorable times were with family playing at the annual New Year’s eve tournament. She was proud to win many times.

Left to cherish the memories of Evelyn Cauffman Miller are a step son, Thomas Miller of Rochester; seven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and two honorary daughters: Mary Ann Hibbert of Roanoke, and Janet Frantz Johnson of Fort Wayne.

Preceding Evelyn in death are her parents, husband, two step-sons: Tona Miller, and Bob Miller; daughter-in-law Peggy Miller; sister Ida E. Price; three Fingerle brothers: Ray, Jesse P., and Elbert; and special friend Paul Franz.

A celebration of the life of Mrs. Evelyn Cauffman Miller will be at 3 p.m., Friday, June 8, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester, with Pastor Gail Law officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1-3 p.m., Friday in the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 801 Jefferson St. Rochester, IN 46975 or the Fulton County Cancer Fund through the Northern Indiana Community Foundation, 715 Main Street, Rochester, IN 46975.
