WARSAW — Members of the John C. Peterson Post 49 conducted the annual Memorial Day service May 28 at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.

The service began with a performance of patriotic songs by the Kosciusko County Extension Choir and the posting of colors by the Color Guard. After the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem, Post Commander Bruce Knuoff welcomed everyone in attendance. Rev. Roy Blake led the invocation.

Maj. Fred Josellis gave the service’s address, discussing the loss of a close friend and the importance of remembering the definition of heroics.

“Heroics is a word that is becoming more frequently used in trivial matters,” said Josellis. “I think we have an obligation to remember true heroics. It truly is our job to remember those who have fallen.”

After the address, a roll call of deceased veterans was read aloud. Mike Davis, Post 49 member, read the names.

After the retiring of the colors, wreaths were presented on the three Legion Circles at the cemetery.
