MILFORD — The Milford Public Library will host the following events in June:

Library patron Hunter Graber recommends reading “Those Darn Squirrels!” and “Those Darn Squirrels Fly South” by Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri because they are “very funny.” Do you have a book recommendation? We want to hear it! Post a photo with your recommendation, tag the Milford Public Library’s Facebook page, and use the hashtag #milfordreads. You might see your photo shared on Facebook!

Firefly Award

Author Mac Barnett and illustrator Brian Biggs are the 2018 Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award winners for their book “Noisy Night.” The Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award is an initiative of the Indiana Center for the Book to promote early childhood literacy in Indiana.

The five books nominated for the Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award are all available at Milford Public Library. The selections include “Spunky Little Monkey” by Bill Martin, Jr., and Michael Sampson; “Blocks” by Irene Dickson; “Everybunny Dance!” by Ellie Sandall; “Hooray for Birds!” by Lucy Cousins, and, of course, winner “Noisy Night” by Mac Barnett.

Library patrons can place a hold on these books online at www.evergreen.lib.in.us or find them on the new book display in the children’s department.

Children ages 0 to 5 voted at Milford Public Library and statewide with help from an adult to choose a winner. This is the fourth year of the Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award.

Family Summer Story Time

Summer Story Time is scheduled at 10 or 11 a.m. for Fridays from June 8 to July 13. Our first storyteller is Maureen Haab. She has worked at the library since December 1999 and usually can be found working in the adult department cataloging new materials. Being a guest storyteller gives her the opportunity to share children’s stories with our youngest patrons. Her theme is “Story Time Rocks!” Everyone attending will enjoy listening to several books, making a craft and sharing a snack.

Our second guest storyteller is Kaitlyn Arford. She is a part-time clerk and has worked at the library since May 2013. She works the circulation desks in the children’s and adult departments, maintains the Facebook page, and does other publicity for the library. Her theme is “Let’s Dance!” Get on your feet and dance! A family can earn up to six free books just by attending each of the summer story times. Please register at the children’s circulation desk today.

Stem Day—Legos

Join Jamie Edgar for lots of Lego fun. All Summer Reading Club participants are invited to this fun, free program with three sessions at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13. Please sign up for this event starting Wednesday, June 6 by calling (574) 658-4312 or at the children’s circulation desk. Bring a friend.

Teen Activity Musical Games

Teens going into grades six through 12 are invited to play fun musical games like Bus Stop, Head Pop and Name That Tune at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 7, in the library meeting room. Library staff will serve free refreshments. Teens are welcome to bring a friend. No registration or library card is needed.
