Several Area Track Stars Land On Academic All-State

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches released its lists for the Academic All-State recipients for 2018 boys and girls track. Among the award winners were a handful from the area Northern Lakes Conference teams.

Wawasee, Warsaw and NorthWood all had an athlete make the First Team lists. Tyler Metzinger and Bryce Garner of Warsaw, Kate Jarvis and Arron Smith of NorthWood and Hannah-Marie Lamle of Wawasee were all selected First Team, which picks athletes based on criteria including a 3.5 or better grade point average, a 1200 SAT/26 ACT/1140 PSAT, and on the sectional roster for their respective track teams.

The Honorable Mention All-State locally had Warsaw’s Abigail Doberstein, Alexie Day, Caitlin Kehler and Remi Beckham, NorthWood’s Breanne Resler and Erica Stutsman and Wawasee’s Sara Pritchard for the girls. Warsaw’s Nolan Groninger and John Culbertson, NorthWood’s Brayton Yoder and Wawasee’s Isaiah Tipping were chosen for the boys.

First Team girls selections from the greater area included Kyleigh McKee, Jillian Kissinger and Margaret Gallagher of Goshen; Kendra Laidig, Lauren Frank, Amanda George and Dani Spring of Penn; Caitlin Casey, Lauren Rymsza and Madeleine Eckrich of South Bend St. Joe; and Emma Dahlquist of Rochester. Honorable Mention girls included Dinah Gilbert and Jessica Corredor-Leon of Elkhart Memorial; Amira Oudghiri and Ellie Jankowski of Penn; Ashley Sanchez-Gonzalez of Goshen; April Chrisman of Lakeland; Kerigan Hatfield of Manchester; Opal Polk of Peru; Sarah Rohr of Rochester; and Hannah Lindenman of South Bend St. Joe.

First Team boys selections for the greater area included Drew Diamente, David Kyler, Alex Scharpenburg and Braden Baker of Columbia City; Felix Perez-Diener, Simon Myers, Jason Barahona-Rosales and Demetrius Gulewicz of Goshen; Ben Reichenbach and Remington Trick of Manchester; Skip Morrell, Michael Godfrey, Adam Mazurek, Jacob Moon, Bill Powers and Joe Deahl of South Bend St. Joe; Klaus Bottorf of Bethany Christian; Tyler BonDurant of Elkhart Memorial; Thomas Rohr of Rochester; and Shaune Lapp of South Bend Riley. Honorable Mention boys included Simon Graber-Miller and Dustin Miller of Bethany Christian; Jon O’Dell and Liam Hesting of Columbia City; Chris Sanchez, Brian Olvera and Sam Miller of Goshen; Montgomery Pattison and Nate Freeman of Manchester; Andrew Walkowski, Ryan Phelan, Isaac Balen, Chris Piechocki and Jared Chapin of South Bend Riley; Ethan Marlatt, Saul Garcia, Mark Hiestand and Gideon Lawson of South Bend St. Joe; Keaton Fleeman of Lakeland; and Isaac Sible of Penn.
