AKRON — Tippecanoe Valley made three runs in the bottom of the first stand up, and the Lady Vikings upset Class 2A, No. 3 Whitko, 3-1, in Three Rivers Conference action at home Wednesday.
Mayde Fear scattered eight hits and three walks versus three strikeouts, giving up a single run in the seventh in the complete-game win, a reprisal for a lopsided 20-0 Whitko victory in the Valley tournament back on April 28.
Ellie Snep eventually settled in to allow just six hits and three walks while striking out eight for the Wildcats, but it wasn’t enough after Valley’s three-run first.
Alex Gomez and Kayla Scott drove in runs in that first inning, and Madi Francis, Alex Gomez and Kirstyn Yoder scored runs for the Vikings. That was all the run support Fear and the Valley defense would ever need as the Vikings improved to 4-5 in the TRC and 6-12 overall.
Reannon Hopkins scored Whitko’s lone run in the seventh, and she finished as the only Wildcat with multiple hits with two Wednesday. Whitko slid to 17-5 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
Whitko hosts Southwood Thursday at 5 p.m. Valley hosts Warsaw Friday at 5 p.m.
