
WINONA LAKE – Grace’s track and field team wrapped up the NCCAA National Championships with a number of memorable performances.
The throwers powered the day for the Lancers, placing well in nearly every event in which they competed.
The championships were held at Grace’s Bernard and Linnie Key Track and Field Complex for the first time in school history, welcoming over 450 student-athletes to Kosciusko County.
Grace had three throwers place in the men’s hammer on the final day of the championships. Isaac Stuckey and Jacob Brown placed second and third respectively to earn All-American recognition. Stuckey threw 188-feet-10.5, and Brown hit 187-8.75.
Additionally, Walker Hobbs was seventh in the event for the Lancers.
Hobbs narrowly missed out on All-American honors in the shot put. He threw 49-feet-10.75 for fourth place, less than an inch behind third.
Martin Schiele had a busy day for Grace, competing in three events. He placed eighth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.16 seconds. An hour later, he grabbed fourth place in the 200 at 22.23.
He then teamed up with Joshua Pridgen, Brendan Hamilton and Sam Hall to finish sixth in the 4×400 relay.
Ben Rankin earned points for Grace in the 5,000 when he placed seventh.
Carter Meyer finished 11th in a tightly contested 1,500 race at 4:13.59, Hall was 10th in the 800 at 1:57.41, and Jesse Zvers was 12th in the 5,000.
Caleb Brown finished 11th in both the shot put and the hammer, William Shafer was 10th in the hammer, and Abbie Evans was 16th in the women’s hammer.
Overall, Grace finished eighth as a team on the men’s side and 17th on the women’s side.
Grace will end the year at the NAIA Outdoor Championships, held in Gulf Shores, Ala., starting May 24.
