KNOX — Triton’s girls tennis team closed its Hoosier North Athletic Conference round robin with its second win over Knox in as many nights, and the Lady Trojans clinched an HNAC three-peat by finishing off a perfect 6-0 conference slate on the road in Knox Wednesday night.
Wednesday’s win echoed Tuesday’s 3-2 victory for Triton, as the Trojans claimed wins at 1 singles and on both doubles courts.
Kolbie Mason beat Shelby Faverty, 6-4, 6-1 for Triton’s lone singles win, Emma Ross and Hannah Wanemacher swept Madison Land and Maddie Krueger, 6-0, 6-0 a second time at 1 doubles, and Megan McFarland and Emma Hepler beat Carissa kwpa and Emma Binkley, 6-1, 6-0 at 2 doubles.
Molly McFarland and Haley Hooley were both more competitive than they had been the night before but still fell in straight sets, the former a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Maria Hasnerl at 2 singles, and the latter a 6-1, 7-6(5) defeat by Cameron McGowan at 3 singles.
Triton moves to 9-1 overall. Wednesday’s win not only gave the Trojans’ three seniors Mason, Wanemacher and Ross a third straight HNAC title but also a fourth straight conference crown after Triton won the last Northern State Conference title in 2015.
Knox slipped to 4-6 and 1-2 in the conference.
Triton’s JV also backed up another sweep of Knox Tuesday with a 6-0 win Wednesday.
