Girls Tennis

It was doubles vision for Wawasee on Monday, two doubles to be specific.

The pairing of Brianna Haessig and Molly Jones rallied for a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) marathon over Katie Van Vorst and Maddie Hilbish to push Wawasee to a 3-2 victory over visiting West Noble.

Wawasee got its other two court wins from Kendra Doerr at No. 1, beating Megan Godfrey four and four, and from Kennedy Church at No. 3, who took down Allison Baker love and two.

West Noble evened its chances with wins from Tori Miller at No. 2, beating Elizabeth Kleopfer four and four, and from Tara Miller and Riley Kruger at No. 1 doubles, going one and two over Kabrea Rostochak and Courtney Larson.

Wawasee had possibly its best showing in the JV ranks this season, swarming West Noble 6-1. All four singles courts went to the Lady Warriors, earning wins from Kaitlin Graber, Sailor Davis-York, Tate Cowan and Brittany Jackson. In doubles play, Brittney Jackson and Valerie Haessig along with Casey Yankosky and Stephanie Ruiz both took home wins.

Wawasee (4-6) will host Elkhart Memorial on Tuesday.

Baseball

Concord mounted a giant rally in the bottom of the seventh to stun Wawasee, 11-10, in Dunlap.

The Minutemen scored five runs in its final at-bat, capped by a three-run double from Kaleb Soterbeer for the walk-off win. Concord got its first two runs of the inning built off three walks and two hit-by-pitch.

Jose Mendoza had three RBIs and Brandon Maynard added a pair of runs batted in for Concord. Starting Minuteman pitcher Jack Lietzan struck out 10 in 4.1 innings of work. Drew McDougle got the win despite giving up five runs in relief.

Levi Brown, who loaded the bases in the seventh on the hill, did go 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kameron Salazar also scored twice and knocked two in.

Wawasee (8-2) earned a JV win Monday, beating Concord 13-9. Stats from the game were not provided.

Wawasee (6-7, 2-4 NLC) will take on Warsaw Wednesday in Syracuse.

Softball

Concord made it a perfect 7-0 through the first round of the NLC round robin after a 10-1 win at Wawasee Monday evening.

Skylarr Hartpence went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Minutemen, which also had two hits each from Madison Loge and Makenna Carrington. Mayla Herman and Skylar Decker each doubled and combined for four runs scored.

Alexis Kern held Wawasee to four hits on the night to get the pitching win for Concord (10-1, 7-0 NLC), working around four walks by striking out seven.

Ava Rush had three of those hits for Wawasee, all singles, and scored the only run on an RBI from Beth Flannery. Kiaundra Olson was charged with the loss, giving up nine hits and seven runs in four innings of work.

In a shootout, the Wawasee JV (5-4) got past Concord 15-10. Casey Drake led the winners with four RBIs, Grace Allen had three hits and winning pitcher Ciandra Ervin helped her cause with a triple.

Wawasee (5-8, 2-4 NLC) will visit Warsaw on Wednesday.
