BOURBON – After a trying winter as any school could imagine, Triton High School will look to redeem itself a bit.
The Triton athletic department will host a winter sports senior recognition night on May 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the newly finished gym floor at the high school.
After flooding during Christmas break destroyed the Trojan Trench and its surrounding rooms, Triton went ahead and refloored the Trench and constructed the long overdue annex gym on campus. Those projects are currently under construction and are aimed to be completed in time for the senior recognition night.
Triton completed the second half of its winter sports seasons for basketball and wrestling shuffling time between Triton Elementary School, Plymouth High School and using hallways and any space available. The school also lost tournament hosting for the HNAC Wrestling Championships, the Class 1-A Triton Boys Basketball Sectional as well as the regional the following week. Included in the end-of-season mess was the loss of the boys basketball senior night, which was cancelled after Knox had flooding cancel its game against Triton in the final week of the season.
Triton will formally recognize its girls basketball, boys basketball and wrestling seniors as well as unveil its new gym floor to the general public on May 12. The school is also planning on a three-point contest for its seniors as part of the festivities.
The event is free for the public.
