Baseball
The NorthWood baseball team continues to click on all cylinders.
The Panthers took apart host Plymouth 10-1 to remain undefeated in Northern Lakes Conference play.
NorthWood got another outstanding pitching performance to go with errorless defense and plenty of offense from a plethora of players to pup the Pilgrims.
The Panthers started strong with a pair of runs in the first and one in the second inning. NorthWood scored four more times in the fourth frame to bust the game open. The Pilgrims managed their lone run in the final inning.
Matt Dutkowski was stellar on the hill. He fired a three-hitter, allowing just three singles. Dutkowski had three strikeouts and three walks.
Sawyer Warren had a big night at the dish to lead the 15-hit attack. He finished with three hits, including a home run, and four RBI for the winners.
Brock Miller had four hits, while Payton Bear and Jaden Miller each had two. Bear also homered for the Panthers. Dutkowski and Brant Mast each had two RBI.
NorthWood improved to 11-1 overall and moved to 5-0 in NLC play.
The Panthers are slated to play at Bremen Saturday at 11 a.m.
Softball
The NorthWood softball team saved its best for last versus Plymouth.
Make that Gracie Clark saved her best for last for the Panthers.
Clark slugged a walk-off, three-run home run in her team’s final at-bat for a 5-3 victory over the Pilgrims.
Clark’s shot in the home half of the seventh inning lifted NorthWood to a Northern Lakes Conference win at the Callander Athletic Complex in Nappanee.
The Pilgrims had taken a 3-2 lead by scoring three runs in the sixth inning.
Clark also had a double in the win, while Kylie Thornton, Lili Lomeli and Amanda Jenkins each had a hit.
Madison Miller notched the pitching win for the Panthers.
NorthWood hosts Triton Saturday morning.
