WARSAW — Trail camera video helped in the identification and arrest of a Leesburg man who police say committed multiple thefts and burglaries throughout the first months of 2018.

Marc Kyle Sutherland Sr.

Marc Kyle Sutherland, Sr., 43, 23 EMS T26C Lane, Leesburg, is charged with burglary, a level 4 felony; auto theft, a level 6 felony; theft, a level 6 felony; and another count of theft, a class A misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Syracuse police responded to a call from a resident on Jan. 2 who reported that Sutherland had stolen two $100 bills from his residence while he was at work. The complainant showed police photos printed from  trail camera footage that showed Sutherland entering his residence without permission. The resident said Sutherland and another woman rent an upstairs apartment.

The woman, Christie Sutherland, told the resident, who then reported to police that Marc Sutherland had entered the residence by using a credit card in the door. The resident added that he later found that Sutherland had stolen a $400 cell phone as well as about $100 in change.

On March 6, that same resident told police he had traded his motorcycle plus $1,000 to Sutherland in exchange for a motorcycle that police say was stolen in Texas. Texas officials told Syracuse police their top suspect in the theft was Sutherland. Police learned this information as a result of a title check called in to police for the motorcycle currently in the possession of Sutherland’s landlord. Sutherland’s landlord told police he was informed by Sutherland that the title had been lost in Texas.

The landlord told police on March 23 that he had evicted Marc and Christie Sutherland on March 17. After the couple moved out, the landlord noticed they had taken 10 stereo speakers, a leather Harley Davidson jacket, a DVD player and a signed and authenticated photograph of Michael Jackson, all valued at about $1,260.

The landlord told police the stolen items had been kept in a room of the rental apartment.
