Girls tennis
Triton’s girls tennis team earned a pair of wins over North Judson-San Pierre Monday night, topping the Lady Jays 3-2 in a make-up of a match originally scheduled for April 4 before rolling to a 4-1 win in the second match of the night.
Kolbie Mason surrendered just one game to Courtney Trusty in her two wins at 1 singles, and Hannah Wanemacher and Emma Ross did the same to two different Judson lineups at 1 doubles. Megan McFarland and Emma Hepler collected wins in both their 2 doubles matches, while Molly McFarland defeated Lauren Sturgell, 3-3, in the evening’s second match after falling 4-3 to Cora Sallee in the opener.
The Trojans stay perfect at 5-0 overall while opening Hoosier North Athletic Conference play at 2-0. Judson falls to 2-6 overall with an 0-2 HNAC mark.
Triton’s JV beat their Judson counterparts 3-0 and 2-1, meanwhile.
The Lady Trojans continue conference play at LaVille tonight.
Softball
Triton’s softball team opened up its Hoosier North Athletic Conference slate with a dominant, 15-6 win at LaVille Monday night.
The Lady Trojans collected 11 hits, including three by starter Nicole Sechrist, who homered helping her own cause inside the circle with two RBI and two runs scored. Delanie Miller also finished with three hits, driving in three runs and scoring another three in a 3-for-4 performance. Taytum Hargrave tripled and recorded three RBIs while reaching base four times.
Sechrist surrendered just four hits with five walks and five strikeouts, giving up six runs — only two earned — in six innings.
Triton softball is back in action tonight at North Miami.
Baseball
Triton’s baseball team gave up five Bethany Christian runs in the eighth and couldn’t quite come all the way back despite rallying in the Trojans’ own last chance in the bottom half of the inning to fall by an 11-10 margin at home Monday.
Ryan Kaufman went 4 for 5 at the plate with three RBIs, while Delano Shumpert recorded a pair of hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Max Slusser also tallied two hits with two runs scored in a game Triton never quite led after falling behind by three runs after two innings.
Vince Helton got the start, giving up six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts for seven runs, five earned, and Lucas Newman got the loss surrendering four hits and a walk for four runs, three earned, coming in in the eighth.
Triton looks to snap a three-game skid versus visiting Hoosier North Athletic Conference foe LaVille tonight.
