Nila M. McGahan, 80, McCordsville, died at 6:38 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Fishers.
She was born Jan. 13, 1938 in Columbia City, a daughter of the late Cletus J. and Flossie (Miles) Nolt. She spent her formative years in Jefferson Township, Whitley County. She graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1956.
For the past eleven years, she had lived with her daughter in McCordsville. Prior to that, she had lived in Whitley County most of her life with the exception of four years in Hawaii, with her then-husband, as he served in the U.S. military.
She worked for the former Gobbler’s Retreat, Columbia City from 1976 until 1995 when the operation closed with her being the last employee to leave. She then went to work for CUNO Water Treatment in Churubusco where she retired in 2005.
Known to her family as an early riser, she worked hard throughout her life. In her senior years, she enjoyed yard work and anything that got her outside. She had a special fondness for her granddaughter who she would support and encourage by attending her school activities.
She is survived by her two daughters: Carrie M. (Kevin) Nicodemus, Columbia City; and Cami S. (David) Demaree, McCordsville; her granddaughter, Kaylie R. Demaree, McCordsville; and a sister, Nelda (Ronald) Swing, Columbia City.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in the Nolt Cemetery. The visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. at the funeral home.
