It was the battle of big innings Friday between Wawasee and East Noble. The Knights were able to build a huge third inning that lifted them to a 12-10 win over the Warriors in Kendallville.

Wawasee put up a tremendous first inning, scoring seven runs right out of the gate. Jake Crousure had a two-run single and Kam Salazar a two-run double, while Jairus Boyer and Jacob Hand each had RBI singles in the frame.

East Noble got three back in the bottom of the first and two more in the second before blowing up in the third inning. The Knights loaded the bases on walks, and with two outs, were the beneficiary of an error that plated a run. An RBI double from Joe Kovets brought in another run, and then scored four more runs on walks before Lucas Platt plated another with an RBI single.

The seven runs put East Noble up 12-7. Wawasee would get three back in the sixth on a passed ball, a Jeremiah Bess RBI single and fielder’s choice. The tying run came up to the plate in the seventh, but the Knights would get out of it to preserve the win.

The JV kept up its good play to start the season, beating East Noble 8-5. The Warriors move to 4-0 with the win.

Wawasee (2-2) will move to Northern Lakes Conference play Monday at Warsaw.

Softball

Kiera Stacy was a wrecking crew Friday night for Manchester. The senior masher homered and drove in five to lead the Lady Squires to a 10-0 win at Wawasee.

Stacy drove in two runs on a pair of groundouts, but then mashed a three-run homer in the sixth to put the Lady Squires up 9-0. Stacy also singled in the game.

Ali Sites had three hits and a pair of runs scored for Manchester, which collected just seven hits, but earned five walks. Manchester chased Wawasee starting pitcher Olivia Stuck in the second inning after Stuck hit the first two batters with pitches, then walked the next two hitters, scoring a run for a 2-0 lead. A wild pitch and a Sites RBI single helped fuel a five-run second frame.

Wawasee managed just three hits, two singles from Ava Rush and a single from Bethany Flannery.

The Wawasee JV used a big offensive day from Ciandra Ervin to beat Manchester 17-7. Ervin knocked in four runs at the plate, and also pitched her team to the win. Autumn Conners and Casey Drake each added three RBIs in the victory, the Lady Warriors moving to 2-1 on the season.

Wawasee (2-3) will visit Triton Saturday, Manchester (3-3) scheduled for a doubleheader Saturday at Fremont.
