Ruth Eileen Hill

Ruth “Eileen” (Braselton) Hill, 91, passed away on Thursday April 12, 2018, at Presence Our Lady of Victory long-term care facility in Bourbonnais, Kankakee County, Ill.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. EDT Monday April 16, 2018, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, IN. 46563. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, 11203 Michigan Rd., Plymouth, IN. 46563 with visitation one hour before the service. Pastor Ed Friberg will officiate. Interment will be at the New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.

She was born on July 6, 1926, to Benjamin H. and Alice Fae (McCormick) Braselton of Riverdale, Ill. Eileen married George Hill on April 2, 1949, at the Church of the Nazarene in Harvey, Ill. The newlyweds lived with Eileen’s widowed mother, Alice Braselton, for six years until they built their own home at 3737 West 162nd Place, Markham, Ill. Four children were born to this union: Dale Allen Hill, Barbara Ann Hill Shidler, Susan Lynn Hill Allen and Donald Ray Hill.

In 1993, George and Eileen moved to Plymouth and lived at 620 W. Berkley Street. They were active members of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church.

After Eileen’s husband, George Hill, and their daughter, Sue Allen, both died in 2011, worsening dementia necessitated a move to Manteno, Ill. in 2012, where her son, Dale Hill, was living. Dale lovingly cared for his mother as her Alzheimer’s disease progressed.

Eileen was a loving mother and grandmother. She taught 3rd and 4th grades in the County Club Hills school in Illinois for 20 years. Eileen served in the nursery of the Nazarene churches in Harvey and Lansing, Ill. for 30 years. She will be remembered for her quick wit and feisty comebacks to anyone who tried to get her to do something she didn’t want to do.

Surviving are her children, son, Dale Allen Hill (Teddie Lynn Anderson) Manteno, Ill.; daughter, Barbara Ann Hill Shidler, Plymouth; son-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Allen (Denise Bourque), Plymouth; son, Donald Ray Hill (Victoria Szombathy), Valparaiso; grandchildren,  Amy Jo (Hill) VanSwol(Timothy VanSwol) Manteno, Ill. and J.
