Anna Margaret (Cooper) Freet, 84, Nappanee, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in her residence from Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease that she was diagnosed with in 2004.

She was born Feb. 18, 1934, in South Bend to James Franklin “Frank” and Laura Elizabeth (Nelson) Cooper. On Aug. 8, 1954, Anna married Jerald A. Freet in South Bend.

Surviving is her husband, Jerald, Nappanee; a son, Jay A. Freet, South Bend; three daughters: Carla R. (Rodney) Freet Rabel, Nappanee; Lorie A. (Jason Hite) Freet, Bristol; Kathleen J. Freet, who took care of both her parents since 2007, Nappanee; a sister, Ruth Louise (Virgil) Cooper Hall, Elkhart; two grandchildren, Nicole M. (Aaron Hanes) Rabel Pettry, Nappanee; Brittany E. (Aaron “Guppy”) Rabel Fish, Nappanee; seven great grandchildren, Cole Pettry, Zoe Rabel, Zachary Rabel, Atticus Pettry, Aurrora Pettry, Zalexus Rabel, and Zuzu Rabel.

Preceding her in death are her parents, a daughter, Sandra J. Freet, and a brother, James Kenneth “Kenny” (Jessie) Cooper.

She lived in Kansas with her parents when she was quite young and moved back there before she began schooling. She was the first in her family to graduate high school in 1954 from South Bend Central. Anna worked outside the home at United Telephone in Nappanee and Durocole where she cleaned Mercury. Her last job was with Catherine Uline as a caregiver.

She retired in 1989 and saw much of the East Coast for the rich history of our nation. She was an artist but would only display her work for her family and never the public. She had an infectious laugh and joked about life. She was a member of Nappanee United Methodist Church.

A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date.
