Police learned from Mauk they drove to the apartment complex, parked their vehicle across the road in a private field and walked to the apartment, where they watched the victim through a window. Mauk stated they had two Airsoft guns with them. He stated when the victim was in the kitchen, rolling a marijuana cigarette, all four of them rushed in the door with Ries hitting the victim with a baseball bat found at the residence.

One of the other juvenile suspects told police while Ries was hitting the victim the rest of them searched the residence for property to steal. Police were also told while fleeing from the residence, the victim shot at them with one being shot in the lower leg.

Mauk and Ries, along with a third juvenile, were initially taken into custody by Syracuse Police and transported to the South Bend Juvenile Justice Center. One juvenile suspect is still wanted for questioning in regards to this case.
