Police said that on Feb. 16, Helblig was seen exiting a house owned by his uncle, who told police Helblig had been advised not to come to the residence due to past theft attempts.

The complainant told police that Helblig had parked his vehicle behind a barn and when he entered the house, there was a smell of cigarette smoke inside. The uncle does not smoke, according to the police report. The uncle told police there were multiple thefts over the past four to five years in which Helblig was a suspect.

Upon entering his house, the suspect’s uncle said seven handguns in original factory boxes, had been removed and placed in a green computer bag. The alleged victim added that several drawers throughout the house had been opened and left open and that two rifles had been moved to a place near the exit door.

Helblig was booked March 7 in the Kosciusko County Jail on $11,500 bond, surety and cash.
