Thursday Games In Holding Pattern
It’s been an epic week of melting, fogging, raining and flooding. While it’s not the first thing on the minds of those with flooded basements and properties, there have been some lingering sporting events that have been affected by the excess water.
Several schools have pushed games back as much as possible this week, hoping to get some basketball in before the sectional tournaments or undercard season finales. Wednesday games were pushed back to Thursday in many instances, and Thursday is largely to be determined. Here is a rundown from Wednesday night updates from schools with games on the card for Wednesday and Thursday.
Triton
The varsity and JV boys basketball games were moved from Tuesday to Wednesday, then Wednesday to Thursday. The plan is to play the games, starting with the JV, at 6 p.m. at Bremen.
The girls sixth grade basketball vs Tippecanoe Valley was postponed from Wednesday with no make-up date immediately announced.
The Triton wrestling awards have been rescheduled to Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
NorthWood
Flooding in the parking lot at NorthWood High School, as well as the completely overrun campus at Elkhart Central High School has the status of Thursday’s boys basketball game in the air. A statement from the athletic department was issued Wednesday:
“We are sure everyone is ready to know a plan is for Thursday! Obviously we have a lot of the festivities that we will need to try to complete if we play Elkhart Central tomorrow night. The simple answer is that we just don’t know yet. There are too many variables still involved with the flooding both here and at Elkhart Central that we have to take into consideration prior to any decision. Our main issue at the high school for hosting an event is our parking lot. It is still 2/3rd covered in significant flooding and has not shown signs of receding as of this afternoon. We will get information out as soon as a decision is made. The administration is in constant contact with local authorities and all of these decisions will be made at the appropriate time. We appreciate your patience with all that we have dealt with over the last ten days. We have cancelled or adjusted our schedule due to significant snow, dense fog and now torrential rain/flooding. Believe us we are ready to get back to school and have a game if at all possible. Everyone stay safe and hope your sump pumps can keep up!!! Stay tuned for more information!”
Tippecanoe Valley
The Three Rivers Conference boys basketball game between Tippecanoe Valley and Maconaquah was moved from Wednesday to Thursday at Maconaquah. JV game is to start at 6 p.m., varsity to follow.
Lakeland Christian Academy
The Hoosier Plains Conference boys basketball game between Lakeland Christian Academy and South Bend Career Academy is still planned for Thursday as scheduled. The game, originally scheduled on Feb. 9, will take place in South Bend with a 6:30 p.m. start. LCA is playing for an outright ownership of the HPC title, sitting at 4-0 in the conference, South Bend Trinity concluded at 4-1.
Lakeview Middle School
The Lakeview at Plymouth girls basketball games scheduled for Thursday are cancelled and will not be made up.
