Primary Ballot Set, Several Races For Both Parties

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY – Filing for candidacy on the May primary ballot closed at noon today Friday, Feb. 9. Both party ballots will have a few races to choose the party nominee for November.

The Republicans will find two local races. That of sheriff and for the seat of Kosciusko County Commissioner-Southern District.

Republican voters will also have races to choose their nomination for State Rep. District 18 and 22. Incumbent David A. Wolkins will be facing Russell Reahard for State Rep. District 18, and Kimberly Cates faces incumbent Curtis Nisly for State Rep. District 22.

Residents in Tippecanoe, Plain and Wayne townships will have a race to choose the Republican candidate for township trustee. Additionally, residents in Tippecanoe Township will need to narrow the field of township advisory board candidates from five to three and those in Monroe Township will narrow the four candidates down to three.

Democrats in Turkey Creek Township will have to choose between two candidates to seek the nomination of township trustee.

On the Republican primary ballot, county voters will be choosing between Anthony W. Ciriello, Kyle P. Dukes, incumbent William (Rocky) Goshert and Christopher D. Rager as their nomination for sheriff.

County voters will also be choosing between incumbent Robert M. (Bob) Conley and DeLynn Geiger for the nomination of county commissioner-southern district.

The township trustee race in Plain Township will be between Tyler Huffer and incumbent Jerry Kammerer.

The race for township trustee in Tippecanoe Township will be between Chris Francis and incumbent Steve Ward. Additionally the township advisory board race in that township will need to be narrowed down to three. Candidates who have filed for those three seats include: Jeffrey D. Anglemyer, Edwin (Ed) Clayton, Amanda Meerzo, James M. (Jim) Rhodes and James M. (Jim) Smith.

Wayne Township voters will need to narrow it down to one between Jeanie Stackhouse and Kerry Stogsdill.

Monroe Township voters will narrow the four candidates: Donald L. Ellison, Soya L. Hathaway, Jack W. Bumgardner and Patrick Landrigan down to three nominees for November.

Democratic voters in Turkey Creek Township will need to choose between Martha Stoelting and Tim Yeager as the nominee for the November ballot.

Those unopposed on the Democrat ballot include:

State And Federal Candidates

Republicans will have to choose between Mike Braun, Luke Messer and Todd Rokita as their nomination for U.S. Senator. Incumbent Joe Donnelly is the only candidate on the Democrat ballot.

Incumbent Jackie Walorski is being challenged on the Republican ballot by Mark Summe for U.S. Rep. Second District. The Democrat ticket will have Douglas Carpenter, Pat Hackett, Mel Hall, Yatish Joshi and Roland E. Leech on the ballot for U.S. Rep. Second District.

U.S. Rep Jim Banks is unopposed on the Republican ticket for U.S. Rep. Third District. The Democrats will be choosing between John F. Roberson, Tommy A. Schrader and Courtney Tritch as their nomination for State Rep. District 3.

Democrats will find Dee M. Moore on the ballot as candidate for State Rep. District 18.
