Girls Basketball

LCA added a first to its program history, a Hoosier Plains Conference championship after thumping South Bend Trinity 47-18.

The Lady Cougars once again started out slow, taking a 9-2 lead after the first quarter, but ramped it up in the second, taking a 22-7 lead into the half.

LCA’s defense was the key in the win, recording 19 steals, led by eight from Anna Reimink. The guard added eight points, four rebounds, seven assists and two blocks in the full day.

Hope Fancil had 16 points, six rebounds and six steals, Tori Calizo had 11 points, four rebounds and three steals, and Brady Gross added four points and 10 rebounds.

LCA finishes the inaugural HPC slate 4-0 and is now 12-8 overall. Coach Allison Kauffman will get a chance to pick up the program’s first win over her alma mater, Fort Wayne Blackhawk, on Thursday when the two meet in Fort Wayne.

Boys Basketball

LCA had three players hit double figures, but Clinton Christian also had three, including Caleb Schrock’s 24 points as Clinton posted a 64-54 win on Saturday.

Schrock scored eight of his points in the fourth quarter and the Couriers (10-5) were 11-14 from the free throw line in the final eight minutes to win its fifth straight game.

Seth Shetler hit four three-pointers and scored 18 points and Herschel Miller added 12 points for the Couriers.

Josh McDaniel and Jake Harmon both scored 15 points for the Cougars, combining to drain six triples and dish five assists. Landon Twombly netted 13 points, Noah Twombly scored eight points and Braxton Keller grabbed seven rebounds.

LCA lost the JV game 54-31.

LCA (7-9) will visit Cornerstone Christian on Tuesday.

Middle School Basketball

Saturday saw Lakeland Christian take on South Bend Trinity. The junior high boys lost 38-30 and the girls won 38-6.
